Go Cougars!!

So, we all know I pretty much hate sports, but it is so much fun seeing all of my boys so EXCITED and PASSIONATE about BYU football season! Chris said last night was like Christmas Eve for him...he couldn't wait :) Caleb woke up and went straight to the TV to watch "College Game Day" or whatever the show is. Forget cartoons! They are all wearing their BYU apparel and are thrilled about sitting in the 100 degree weather to watch the first game of the season! GO COUGARS!!!

The Foster Family

So this is us. Some of you out there might be curious to see updated pictures of the Foster family. You can click on the picture to make it larger.

First Day of School

This isn't the best picture, but I couldn't find my camera anywhere this morning, and by the time I found it, we were really pushing it on time. I promised my kids that we absolutely would NOT be late on the first day of school (we are famous for being late to school) and we almost were! So this was snapped super quickly as we piled into the car

The kids came home happy, happy, happy. And notice Caleb's shoe laces, for those of you who get my emails :) And lets hope that at some point during the day, Jonah got those crooked shorts turned around the right direction!

Flashback Friday

Several people have been doing this...and I LOVE the old photos! So I, too, am going to start with "Flashback Friday". Of course, it is Sunday evening so I really shouldn't be doing a Friday post, but this is my blog and I can do what I want :) And I missed last Friday so I'm making up for that now!

Yes, this is a totally random picture, but it makes me laugh. Nobody was cooperating, kids were freaking out, and it was more amusing than anything. Life is like that sometimes, eh?

Happy FIRST Birthday, Clara!

Clara
This girl brings me so much happiness. She is a little bit feisty and a whole lot sweet...and I just can't get enough of her. I love how she laughs easily at silly noises and faces. She gets so excited at the sight of food. She is very aggressive when she wants something and you'd-better-believe she's going to get it! She will snuggle right into the side of your body if you're laying down. She's curious and playful and likes to tease. I adore this child with all of my heart. Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!!!

Beautiful Baby!

FINALLY some pink again!!!!

All Smiles!

There's nothing sweeter...

Happy Birthday Isabelle

It is so hard to believe my Isabelle is NINE! WOW! She has grown to be such a talented little person. She absolutely loves to dance and has been doing it since she was three. She's incredible! I love watching all of her performances. She's also one of the most creative people I know. She's CONSTANTLY drawing, painting, making up poems, writing silly stories, etc. She makes these elaborate and totally amazing 3-D paper projects...she has no problem making any of her artistic visions come to life with some paper and a little bit (or a lot) of scotch tape. Isabelle is sweet and girly and loves all things pink, sparkly, and beautiful. She's also got flip side that is all sass and attitude. And as much as that drives me crazy in a heated moment, I also admire that personality trait. She's not one to get pushed around, that's for sure! Isabelle, I adore you. You are my best friend and a pure joy to be around. Happy birthday, Girlfriend!

Joy in the Kitchen

My dearest friend is THE MOST FABULOUS COOK I know. I really, truly mean that and not just because she is a great friend. She is selling a cookbook with all of her yummiest recipes. Everything in it is wonderful...she has practiced lots on our family because she knows how we love to eat. You can order a cookbook at "www.joyinthekitchen.com" (I can't figure out how to do a direct link, sorry). Check it out! She was just on Good Things Utah making delicious whole wheat bread and she will be back in December doing a dessert. We love you AND your cooking, Joy!!

Montana!!

Here are a few of the pictures that highlight only a few of the fabulous adventures we had in Great Falls, Montana! We had a blast with some of our very best friends. Mostly we just enjoyed the great outdoors, which was exactly what we needed! I think everyone loved splashing around in the rivers the most...it was refreshing and a good time for all. The older boys loved the rope swing at the water hole.

The kids got along marvelously. The little ones all slept together in one crowded room, while the older boys slept in the RV. All of the kids loved the sleeping arrangements. Meals were chaos. Abram was loud and whiny :) Isabelle and Noah were inseparable, which was pretty stinking cute.

We went a few days without water which I'm sure was stressful for the Arkoudas's, but it was pretty amusing for everyone else. No water for washing, showering, drinking, doing dishes, etc. Thank goodness for store bought water and a stove to boil water we took from the neighbors! We all smelled bad, but you know, it just added to the outdoorsy-ness of the vacation :)

Thank you, Melanie & Ryan and Joy & Kevin for the great memories! Enjoy the pics!

Book Review...John Adams

SUCH a great book! It is full of fact, but written in such a way that keeps you interested the entire time. Thank goodness for the amazing history found in all of the letters John Adams wrote. How incredible to have actual thoughts and feelings and worries and joys and frustrations and EVERYTHING associated with the founding of our country. It made me very aware of how important journals and record keeping are.

I was also touched by John Adam's love and respect for his wife, Abigail. I love that she had her own opinions and relationships and ideals, separate from her husband, but together they were still very much a united front.

I was also constantly impressed by what a good and honest and true man he was, yet he was ridiculed for being that way. In times it actually worked against him. John Adams' political character was attacked by someone who was once a dear friend and his own response sums up the kind of man he actually was perfectly.
"...I never soliced a vote in my life for any public office. I never swerved from any principle, I never professed any opinion - I never concealed even any speculative opinion - to obtain a vote. I never sacrificed a friend or betrayed a trust. I never hired scribblers to defame my rivals. I never wrote a line of slander against my bitterest enemy, nor encouraged it in any other."

I can't help but wonder what he would think of our country now. He and Abigail sacrificed so much to help grant us our freedoms, and I wonder if he would be pleased with what our country has become, or appalled. There is a quote from Abigail, "Posterity who are to reap the blessings will scarcely be able to conceive the hardships and sufferings of their ancestors."

After reading this book, I am certain that Heavenly Father had everything to do with the foundation of our country. There were so many miracles come to pass that it is impossible to think otherwise. I had no idea that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died the EXACT same day, on July 4th, a day that meant everything to them. They were the last two signers of the Declaration of Independence still alive, they had a very close and complicated relationship, and they lived nowhere near eachother at the time of their deaths. Thomas Jefferson died first, and according to several accounts, John Adams last words were, "Thomas Jefferson survives". This makes me think that perhaps Thomas Jefferson was there waiting for him on the other side.

I give this book an "A"!
And how's that for a long book review?!
